MINI TOTS

Introduce your child to the magic of gymnastics with Mini Tots - Swan Academy's entry-level programme built for children aged 4 to 6 with little or no prior experience. Every session is designed to develop fundamental movement skills like balance, coordination, jumping, rolling, and body shapes, all while building confidence and independence in a safe, supportive environment. Children rotate through exciting equipment stations each week (soft blocks, low beams, bars, and trampettes) keeping sessions active, varied, and genuinely fun. It's where a lifelong love of movement begins.

What Your Child Will Experience:

Structured warm-ups with fun games to build coordination and listening skills

Rotating equipment stations including floor, beam, bars and trampettes

Age-appropriate skills like forward rolls, balances, jumps and body shapes

A progressive badge and award scheme so children can see their own improvement

Regular assessment points where coaches track development and set new goals

Who This Is For:

Perfect for children aged 4 to 6 who are new to gymnastics or looking for a structured first step into physical activity. No experience needed, just energy, curiosity and a willingness to have fun. This class is also ideal for children who may be shy or nervous as our coaches are experienced at building confidence in a small group setting.

Skills They Will Learn:

Balance and spatial awareness

Core strength and flexibility

Forward and backward rolls

Star jumps, tuck jumps and straight jumps

Basic beam walks and shapes

Hanging and swinging on bars

Listening, turn-taking and following instructions

  • Leotard or unitard (a leotard can be worn with shorts or leggings as appropriate)

Religious and Medical Jewellery In line with IGA guidelines, a risk assessment will be carried out to determine whether jewellery can be safely covered by a sweatband. If the coach identifies a risk to the participant, coach or others that cannot be adequately controlled, participation may be prohibited on safety grounds.

Badges and Assessments:

Children work through our structured badge programme, progressing from beginner levels through to more advanced awards as their skills develop. Coaches assess each child regularly and award badges when milestones are reached. It gives children something to work towards and parents a clear view of progress. When your child is ready, coaches will recommend them for the next programme.

Watching Weeks:

Each few term we open up sessions for parents to watch from inside the gym. It's a chance to see exactly what your child has been working on, celebrate their progress and chat with coaches about next steps.

Shows and Competitions:

Mini Tots don't compete in formal competitions, but they absolutely get their moment to shine. Each year our Mini Tots take part in the club's annual showcase where they perform a group routine in front of family and friends. It's a brilliant first experience of performing, and parents are always amazed at how much their little ones have learned. We also run fun internal events throughout the year like themed sessions and mini challenges to keep things exciting and give children a taste of what's to come as they progress through the club.
