Swan Gymnastics is home to many Olympic, European, international, and national-level gymnasts.
Svetlana (Director of Swan Academy) is not only one of the best coaches in the world, but she is also very well known for her gymnastics success and the gymnasts she has taught over the years. To celebrate this success, we created a page dedicated to all the amazing gymnasts she has trained, showing that anything is possible with hard work and the right coach. There are countless incredible gymnasts to mention, but here are just a few who truly made their mark.
Tatiana Gorbunova
Tatiana Gorbunova is a Russian gymnast who was trained by Svetlana, her first coach. Tatiana trained and performed in multiple gymnastics shows in Stevenage. She achieved the titles of European Champion, World Champion, and Olympic Champion in 2008. We are so proud of you, Tatiana — not only are you a spectacular rhythmic gymnast, but also such a kind and caring person.
Mollie Smith
Mollie Smith, a Stevenage-based gymnast, was trained by Svetlana and later became one of the first coaches at Swan when we opened in 2013. Mollie was an exceptional gymnast, contributing significantly to Stevenage’s success. A well-known photo of Mollie can be seen on the bridge connecting to Stevenage train station. She won numerous national competitions for Stevenage and also competed internationally. Not only was she an outstanding gymnast, but she also excelled as a coach. As a 2007 Scottish National Team Member and 2009 Scottish Champion Gold Medalist, Molly demonstrated a strong work ethic and made a tremendous impact on Stevenage. Several times she competed in English and British Championships
Ivan Bulyha
Ivan Bulyha is Svetlana’s first son. Born in Belarus, Ivan was a remarkable gymnast who initially trained with his father as a junior. At age 11, he moved to the UK with his mother, Svetlana who helped shape him into an incredible gymnast. At 13, Ivan joined Hinckley Gymnastics Club to train with national coach Alex Shyraryev and Trevor Low, where he developed into a top British gymnast. Over eight years, Ivan competed nationally and represented Great Britain in both junior and senior squads, training alongside Max Whitlock, Daniel Keatings, Louis Smith, and other renowned gymnasts. Ivan was the London Open 2009 Champion also selected for the 2012 Olympic squad. Not only is he an outstanding gymnast, but he is also a fantastic coach, father, and son to Svetlana.
Svetlana says, 'Ivan, stay positive and keep working hard, whatever you do in life. You are already a successful son to me, and I’m incredibly proud of you.'
Erika Magpantay
Erika Magpantay is a legendary figure in gymnastics history. Based in Stevenage, Erika trained under Svetlana and coach Alex Suvalov. She became one of the first coaches at Swan when we opened in 2013, alongside Mollie. As one of the top gymnasts to come from Hertfordshire, Erika excelled both nationally and internationally, competing from the age of 6 and representing Great Britain in English and British Championships. Her influence and familiar presence at Swan make her a tremendous inspiration to many of our gymnasts. Erika, we truly appreciate and admire you!
Her dedication and passion for gymnastics have left a lasting impact on our community. Erika’s commitment to nurturing young talent continues to inspire the next generation of gymnasts in Hertfordshire and beyond.
Her legacy is firmly etched in the heart of Swan Academy, and her contributions will always be remembered and celebrated.
Cerhys Davis-Jones
Cerhys — where do we even begin? A superstar gymnast who trained alongside Erika under the guidance of Svetlana and Alex Suvalov, Cerhys began her gymnastics journey at the age of 6. These girls formed the ‘Super Squad’ of Stevenage, the finest gymnasts the town has ever produced. Cerhys excelled on beam and floor, establishing herself as one of the most successful gymnasts to come out of Hertfordshire. From a very young age, she consistently achieved success in nearly every competition, including multiple appearances at the English Championships.
Beyond her accomplishments as a gymnast, Cerhys also took on the role of coach at Swan, inspiring countless young gymnasts with her expertise and passion. Her influence and dedication have left a lasting impact on the next generation. Cerhys continues to be a shining example of excellence in the Hertfordshire gymnastics community.
Lucy Moxham
Lucy Moxham — a gymnastics name to remember. A true standout in the sport, Lucy’s journey has been nothing short of remarkable. Coached by Svetlana and Alex Suvalov, she began gymnastics at the age of 6 and quickly rose through the ranks. Lucy excelled as a regional and national-level gymnast, consistently showcasing her talent and dedication. Her achievements in gymnastics have left a lasting impression, making her an inspiration for many young athletes who aspire to follow in her footsteps.
Her grace and skill on the beam made her a favourite at competitions, and her determination set her apart as one of Hertfordshire’s finest gymnasts. Lucy’s legacy continues to motivate and inspire future champions in the region.
Bethany Suppa
Bethany Suppa: Svetlana once said, ‘With a second name like that, she was destined to be special.’ Bethany was an outstanding gymnast, another fantastic superstar to emerge from Stevenage and Hertfordshire. Coached by Svetlana, she made a significant mark in gymnastics, particularly excelling in floor and vault, making her a standout name at competitions being a regional champion several times. Bethany was also one of the first coaches at Swan, serving as a welfare officer and playing a crucial role in the foundation and success of Swan. She is a big part of why Swan is here today.
Bethany’s dedication to the sport extended beyond her own achievements, as she passionately nurtured the next generation of gymnasts at Swan. Her commitment to the well-being of the athletes as a welfare officer ensured a supportive and positive environment for all. Bethany’s influence and contributions have left a lasting legacy at Swan, making her an integral part of its story.
We are so grateful for you at Swan, Bethany, and Swan will always be your home. This journey wouldn’t have been possible without her amazing mum, Cheryl, who played a massive role not only in Bethany’s gymnastics career but also in Swan’s history. Your family will always be remembered and cherished in the Swan history books.
Serena Batemen
Serena Batemen is a well-known figure within Swan Academy. Serena began gymnastics at the age of 6 and later became a coach at Swan. She achieved significant success as a regional champion in gymnastics in Hertfordshire and Stevenage, having been trained by Svetlana. Her dedication both as a gymnast and a coach has left a lasting impact on the academy.
Serena’s expertise and enthusiasm greatly contributed to the growth and success of many young gymnasts at Swan. Her role as a coach and her achievements in the sport made her a cherished part of the academy’s history. Serena’s legacy continues to inspire and motivate both current and future gymnasts at Swan. We also want to extend a massive thank you to Adrian and Teresa, Serena’s parents, who were instrumental in the early days of Swan Academy. Their involvement was crucial in the club’s development, as they played a significant role in the shows, growth, and establishment of our systems. Their support and dedication have been vital to our success. Swan history books will always thank you!
Sophie Cripps
Sophie Cripps is a standout star in the gymnastics world. She began her journey at just 5 years old and soon became a regional champion, dazzling with her talent. Competing alongside Mollie, Sophie proved herself as a formidable gymnast. When Swan Academy first opened, she also took on a coaching role for a couple of years, imparting her skills and passion to emerging gymnasts. Her achievements and dedication have made a significant impact on our academy. Sophie, we deeply value your contributions and celebrate your remarkable journey in gymnastics!
