Hitchin, Letchworth and the Olympic Dream: Why Now is the Time to Start Gymnastics
The Olympic Games are coming to Los Angeles in 2028. For families in Hitchin and Letchworth, the journey starts closer than you think. Swan Academy head coach Svetlana Lebedinskaya trained at Olympic level and is coaching children from North Hertfordshire every week.

Hitchin, Letchworth and the Olympic Dream
With the Olympic Games heading to Los Angeles in 2028, gymnastics is having a moment. Across North Hertfordshire, families in Hitchin and Letchworth are watching their children light up at the sight of gymnasts on screen and asking the same question: where do we start?
The answer is closer than most people realise.
Swan Academy trains children from Hitchin and Letchworth every week, just 15 minutes up the A602 at Nobel School Sports Centre in Stevenage. Our head coach is Svetlana Lebedinskaya, a former elite gymnast who trained and competed at the highest level in the sport. The children who walk through our doors in Stevenage are being coached by someone who has stood on the same floor as Olympians. That is not something you find at every local club.
North Hertfordshire has always produced sporting talent. Hitchin has a proud sporting culture across football, rugby, athletics and more. Letchworth, as one of the world's first garden cities, was built around the idea of healthy, active communities. That spirit is alive and well, and gymnastics fits right into it. The discipline, the physical literacy, the confidence and the resilience that gymnastics builds are exactly the qualities that sporting families in this part of Hertfordshire are looking for.
With the 2027 World Gymnastics Championships building anticipation ahead of Los Angeles 2028, now is the time for children across Hitchin and Letchworth to get started. The gymnasts who will represent Great Britain at future Olympic Games are training right now, in clubs just like ours. Some of the best talent in the country has come from small, well-coached clubs in towns exactly like Hitchin and Letchworth.
You do not need to move to London. You do not need to travel hours for elite coaching. You need a club with the right coach, the right environment and the right values. Swan Academy provides all three, and it is right on your doorstep.
Whether your child is 4 years old and curious about gymnastics for the first time, or 10 years old and ready to push into something more serious, we have a pathway for them. From our beginner Gym 4 All classes through to our competitive Development and Squad programme, every child at Swan Academy is on a journey, coached with the same care and ambition regardless of where they start.
The Olympics will be in America in 2028. The journey to get there starts in North Hertfordshire, this summer.
